Derek Schuurman is a keen naturalist who spent eight years developing the Madagascar programme for the Johannesburg-based tour operator Unusual Destinations before moving in 2000 to the UK’s leading Madagascar specialist tour operator, Rainbow Tours. He wrote the Globetrotter Madagascar Travel Guide with Malagasy co-author Nivo Ravelojaona. He has also been a regular contributor to Bradt’s Madagascar guidebook as well as to Conservation International’s Lemurs of Madagascar field guide and several prestigious magazines.
