British freelance travel writer David Orkin is the author of Bradt’s Nova Scotia guidebook, and has also updated guidebooks to Amsterdam and Cuba. His writing has appeared regularly in leading UK publications such as The Independent, Wanderlust and Food & Travel, international publications such as Marie Claire and Condé Nast Traveller, and on many travel websites. Orkin has travelled extensively since the mid-1970s – as a backpacker, on business and at the luxury end of the market. He hitchhiked from London to Kathmandu, travelled by train from Hendon to Hong Kong, and has flown in everything from hot-air balloons to Concorde. Before starting to write, he held senior positions in the UK travel industry for over 15 years, specialising in long-haul travel and 'round-the-world' air fares. When not continent-hopping, he lives in Nova Scotia, Canada.
