David Orkin is a British freelance travel writer who is the author of Bradt’s Nova Scotia guidebook and whose work has appeared regularly in leading UK publications such as The Independent, Wanderlust and Food & Travel, international publications such as Marie Claire and Condé Nast Traveller, and many travel websites. He has also updated guidebooks to Amsterdam and Cuba, and has written for music and 'foodie' magazines. Orkin has travelled extensively since the mid-1970s – as a backpacker, on business, and at the luxury end of the market. He hitch-hiked from London to Kathmandu, travelled by train from Hendon to Hong Kong, and has flown in everything from hot-air balloons to Concorde. Before starting to write, he held senior positions in the UK travel industry for over 15 years, specialising in long-haul travel and 'round-the-world' air fares. When not continent-hopping, he lives in Nova Scotia, Canada.
