Bio
Stella Martin grew up in Northern Ireland, fascinated by the natural world and determined to travel. Teaching English in various parts of the world, she spent her spare time investigating, and writing about, the local environment. In 1990 she moved to Australia and was employed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to write the very popular Tropical Topics, an educational newsletter on the wildlife of north Queensland. This work was recognised by the Wet Tropics Management Authority in 2008, when she was presented with a Cassowary Award. She has written numerous freelance articles on travel and wildlife and in 2006 won second prize in the BBC Wildlife magazine travel
